Last Night was a very intimate atmosphere at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, Kingston Jamaica, where jamaicansmusic.com and Earth Hour Caribbean hosted the Earth Hour Acoustic Concert 2013. For the first time, Jamaica was officially recognized as a participant in the annual event that started in 2007 in Australia  to “encourage individuals, businesses and governments around the world to take accountability for their ecological footprint and engage in dialogue and resource exchange that provides real solution to our environmental challenges”.

The performers and hosts did a great job at ensuring that the objective of the event was not overcome by the stellar performances that we were fortunate to witness. The evening was both solemn and fun as we lit and set free Chinese lanterns while observing the official Earth Hour between 8:30 and 9:30 pm, and laughed at flirtatious exchanges between the hosts, Stephen Newland of Rootz Underground and Terri Karelle.

Nearing the end of the show, the hosts asked the audience “Which artist spoke to them the most?”. That was an extremely hard one for me as I enjoyed all the performances. Whether it was Kelissa or her brother, who I first learnt about a day before while watching TVJ’s Smile Jamaica, or Chronixx on drums, or Protoje, Rootz Underground, SkyGrass, Keida, Pentateuch, Conkarah, Jesse Royal, Black as Cole, or Jah9. One thing I know for sure is that the of future Jamaica’s music is in safe hands.

Thanks to Alex Morrissey and Tanaka Roberts of Jamaicansmusic.com and Heather Pinnock of Earth Hour Caribbean for this brilliantly executed event. Special thanks to the entertainers for volunteering their time and talent.
